Broertje en ik met vakantie, de Middellandse
Zee. Broertje ziet een eeuwenoud kerkje, gaat
naar binnen. Ik ga mee en brand snel een
kaarsje als Broertje niet kijkt:
'Maria, bid voor ons...'
Ver van huis en ons werk, tussen vreemde
mensen, blijkt dat wij, ook voor elkaar,
vreemden geworden zijn. Wanneer het is
begonnen en hoe lang het al zo is? Huiverend
van wanhoop bij de kitsch-verlichte nis, roep
ik in stilte het beeld voor me aan:
'Maria, bid voor ons. Wij zijn niet groot, ons
probleem geldt als klein in een wereld die
doordraait of wij al dan niet samen zijn. Het
eten is goed en we lachen wat af, maar ik voel
dat het fout gaat. Deze vakantie wordt ons
graf...'
Broertje staat naast me, de ogen gesloten. Ik
kuch. dan lopen we zwijgend naar buiten, en
zwijgen de lange, lange weg terug. Ach, had ik
geweten dat Broertje hetzelfde dacht!
Misschien dat dat ons weer dicht bij elkaar had
gebracht. Nu stonden we samen en toch zo
apart en de moeder met kind hoorde twee
eenzame harten: 'Maria, bid voor ons...'
