Dat liever, veel liever, een blommetje was
Het gaf niet om vechten en schieten
Maar wou van het leven genieten
Het was in die dingen precies zoals wij
Want het lag maar het liefst op z'n buik in de hei
De broertjes van 't bommetje hadden een doel
Dat diep in hun hart stond geschreven
Ze vonden het bommetje Bas maar een troel

Ze leefden maar kort, doch geheel volgens plan

Maar Bas wist zich altijd te drukken

Dus werd ons onbruikbare Basje verkocht

Heeft Bas zich een plaats op een schotel gehuurd

Droomde Basje zich weer op z'n buik in de hei
Op etenstijd werd hij op tafel geplant
Halverwege de spiegelgevechten
Een fier generaal nam hem kloek in de hand
En hapte - en brak met een knakje zijn tand
IJzervretertjes enige echte
Nu ligt Bas vergeten in 't heidegewas
En voelt zich een blommetje, 't blommetje Bas
Veel meer dan een roemrucht verleden
Bekoort hem het zonnige heden
Hij ligt maar het liefst op z'n buik in de hei
Heel roestig te zonnen, precies zoals wij
Maar kinders, ga liever niet af op de schijn
Loop naar de politie, ik bid je
't Zou best ook een broertje van Bas kunnen zijn
Die zitten nog propvol met plicht en venijn
En wanneer ze ontploffen, ja dan - dan zit je.
