Iets bizars of iets obsceens
Wat-ie aan geen mens vertelt
Voor geen geld
't Sprokkelvrouwtje was een oud en zielig vrouwtje
't Arme mensje beet al jaren op een houtje
Dus toen zij die heer zo hardop hoorde dromen
Is bij haar een eng ideetje opgekomen!
Urenlang bleef zij de kerel achtervolgen
En intussen liep de man maar door te dromen
't Leek wel of-ie liep te bomen met de bomen
Maar tenslotte schreed-ie naar z'n landhuis henen
Prompt gevolgd door 't vrouwtje op haar stramme benen
Zij wist alles van zijn ranzig zieleleven
't Was een psyche om te rillen en te beven
Toen-ie op z'n stoep stond kwam ze plots naar voren
En sluw sprak ze: "Ach, meneer, moet u es horen
'k Zal voor honderd gulden uw geheim bewaren
Anders weet wat u bezielt morgen heel Laren"
Hij riep tegen iemand achter de vitrage:
"Kom es, Fien! Dat ouwe mens hier pleegt chantage"
't Sprokkelvrouwtje sloeg ontzaggelijk aan 't vloeken
En deed onverdroten alles uit de doeken
"Brave vrouw," zei Fien, "Bedankt voor al uw ijver
Maar meneer hier is een veelgelezen schrijver
Wat-ie in 't koele woud liep te verkonden
Da's de plot van zijn roman 'De poel der zonden!'"
