When you picked up the tab, it threw the planets out of line

You hadn't paid for dinner since June of '99

I should have been delighted, but took it as a sign

That you didn't want to owe me or take any more of mine

That silly paranoia that you always dismissed

Finally got it right, and then became part of the list

If we have to say that it won't be pretty to pick up the pieces, to keep this alive

You finally learnt to drive

We only ever went out when I had to pick you up
