This isn't just party music. Their 1999 samba-enredo 'Educação, um Salto Para a Liberdade Por Paulo Freire' paid tribute to educator Paulo Freire, an unusual choice for carnival at the time. Songs like 'Samba-Enredo 1992 - Batuque, a Força de Uma Raça' and their 2003 entry about public health show they've consistently used the platform to talk about things that matter in their community.
Founded in 1977 on São Paulo's eastern outskirts, they've been recording samba-enredos since at least 1989's 'Babalotim'. They've worked with composers like Marquinho PQD and singers including Tinga, keeping their social focus through decades of carnival seasons up to their 2022 entry.
