Little Shop Of Horrors

Little Shop of Horrors began as a low-budget 1960 film by Roger Corman and Charles Griffith, about a meek florist named Seymour Krelborn who finds a carnivorous plant. In 1982, composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman adapted it into an off-Broadway musical at the Orpheum Theatre.

The show's songs like "Dentist!" and "Suddenly Seymour" became staples, mixing catchy melodies with dark humor about dental pain and romance on Skid Row. The original cast included Lee Wilkof as Seymour and Ellen Greene as Audrey, with Frank Oz directing.

While sometimes called campy, the musical found an audience drawn to its peculiar charm and the plant Audrey II's growing demands. It remains a theater piece where the laughs come with a bite.
