Editor's note

Mudvayne's masked metal from Peoria

A theatrical nu-metal band known for 'Dig' and elaborate live costumes.

If you want the full Mudvayne experience, start with 'Dig' and then try 'All That You Are'. That's the range right there.

Their debut 'L.D. 50' landed in 2000 with songs like 'Dig' that became nu-metal staples. The masks and costumes weren't just stagewear, they framed a sound that was both heavy and oddly precise. Even after their hiatus, tracks like 'All That You Are' kept showing up in playlists.

They formed in Peoria in 1996 and put out 'L.D. 50' four years later. After albums like 'The New Game' and 'Lost and Found', they went quiet in 2010 before returning in 2018 with 'We the People'.

Mudvayne formed in Peoria, Illinois in 1996 with Chad Gray on vocals, Greg Tribbett on guitar, Ryan Martinie on bass, and Matthew McDonough on drums. Their debut album 'L.D. 50' came out in 2000 and included songs like 'Dig' and 'Death Blooms.' The band was known for wearing masks and elaborate costumes during their live shows, which some people found theatrical and others called gimmicky.

They followed up with albums like 'The New Game' in 2002 and 'Lost and Found' in 2005, which had tracks such as 'Not Falling' and 'World So Cold.' After releasing a self-titled album in 2009, Mudvayne went on hiatus in 2010. They got back together in 2018 and put out 'We the People' that same year.
