A Canadian rock group that sold millions while critics called them formulaic.
If you want the Nickelback sound, start with How You Remind Me and Photograph. They pretty much define the whole thing.
They broke through with Silver Side Up in 2001, anchored by How You Remind Me. That song became a radio staple, and later tracks like Photograph followed a similar blueprint of big choruses and straightforward rock. Even a lawsuit over the Photograph riff didn't slow them down.
They started playing local bars in Alberta in 1995. After How You Remind Me hit, they kept putting out albums like Dark Horse and Feed the Machine with the same core lineup.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
