Pastilhas Polegarinas formed in São Paulo in 1983 with five singers: Marcelo, Xuxa, Yasmim, Paula, and Leonardo. Their debut single 'Sarna Bahiana' became a national hit that year, a playful song about a skin condition that caught on with Brazilian audiences.
Marcelo and Xuxa remained constants as other members came and went through the late 1980s and 1990s. The band released albums like 'Amiga da Onça' in 1984 and 'Eu Sou Chiclete' in 1985, maintaining popularity despite media attention that sometimes sensationalized their youthful image.
Their songs included 'I Wanna Be a Prata Pirate' and 'Neighborhood Sucks,' part of a catalog that kept them active through changing lineups. The original five members had all departed by the late 1980s, with various replacements joining for periods through the mid-1990s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
