(Nota de Patricio Manns: Ana María Cotapos fue la viuda de Juan José Carrera, fusilado en Mendoza junto a su hermano Luis. Se transformó en correo secreto de su cuñado y amante, el general José Miguel Carrera. Éste se encontraba en una cárcel de Mendoza, minutos antes de ser fusilado a su turno, cuando recibió la última carta de Ana María, quien se encontraba recluida en un convento de religiosas de Valparaíso. Éste puede ser el texto de esa última misiva)
