Editor's note

S.E.S., the 1997 girl group that defined an era

The trio behind 'Dreams Come True' and 'I'm Your Girl' set the template for Korean pop girl groups.

For their pure pop energy, start with 'Dreams Come True.' 'Brand New World' captures their later, more polished sound.

When S.E.S. debuted in 1997 with 'I'm Your Girl,' they weren't just another pop act. Their follow-up 'Dreams Come True' became a national anthem, and songs like 'Brand New World' showed their range beyond pure bubblegum. They sold over 600,000 copies of their first album at a time when physical sales meant everything.

They formed as a trio under SM Entertainment in 1997 and quickly topped charts with their debut single. After Bada left in 2000, Eugene and Shoo continued with hits like 'Be Natural' before the group disbanded in 2002 amid contract disputes.
