When the gallows whispered my name I fled south of the border

This refugee outlaw and a beautiful Mexican brid

When all of a sudden my troubles from my past life they found me

In the form of a sheriff who swore that he tracked me down

In the haze of tequila I could not tell where I was shooting

When the gun smoke had cleared, my true love lay dead on the bar floor
