The Infamous Stringdusters formed in 2005 in Santa Cruz, California, with Andy Hall on guitar, Chris Pandolfi on banjo, Andy Falco on mandolin, and Jeremy Garrett on fiddle. They started with a shared interest in bluegrass and folk, but were open to pushing those traditions.
In 2012, Falco and Garrett left the band. Hall and Pandolfi continued with Travis Book on mandolin and Clay Hess on fiddle. The lineup change was noticeable to fans, but the group kept recording. They put out albums like 'Things That Fly' in 2011, which included the song 'The Place That I Call Home,' and 'Laws of Gravity' in 2017.
Their music draws from bluegrass structures but often feels looser and more exploratory. Songs like 'Starry Night' and '17 Cents' show their knack for melodic instrumental passages and vocal harmonies. They haven't stuck to a pure traditional sound, which has given them a distinct place among newer acoustic bands.
