They released their debut album 'Ammunition' in 1990.
Hextall handled turntables as DJ Pogo while Rollo provided vocals and lyrics. Their sound mixed hip-hop beats with direct, sometimes confrontational lyrics about sexuality and social justice. The 1994 album 'Conscious' and their self-titled 1997 release continued this approach.
Tribe 8 faced criticism for their explicit content but maintained a dedicated following through the 1990s. Their music documented queer life with a raw energy that felt both personal and political.
