Uniikki started putting out music in 2004 with a debut single called 'Harmaa Kaupunki.' They're a Finnish hip-hop group with two main members: Jukka Takalo, who goes by Jare and handles most of the rapping and lyrics, and Jukka Virtanen, known as Junkyard, who produces the beats. Their early albums, like 'Aika On Raha' from 2005 and 'Sano Se Silmiin' from 2007, helped build their audience.
Their songs often touch on personal and social themes, with a sound that mixes straightforward hip-hop with Finnish perspectives. They've worked with other Finnish artists such as Cheek, Elastinen, and Mariska. In 2018, they released '80, 90, 2000,' an album that did well on the charts and includes tracks like 'En Pysty' and 'Kiitorata.'
Some of their lyrics have drawn criticism for being explicit, and they had a legal issue in 2015 over a sample. But they've kept making music that connects with listeners, with songs like 'Matka Viimeinen' and 'Meniks Tunteisiin' reflecting their continued output.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
