Archive material and source history
Urfer formed in Lausanne in 1992 around Swiss musician Pierre-André Arcand, who played accordion and piano and sang. He was joined by guitarist Jean-François Acker and bassist Jean-Pierre Bouvier. Their first album, 'A L'auberge Du Temps Perdu,' came out the following year.
Their songs like 'A L'auberge Du Temps Perdu' and 'Adieu au folklore' often mixed classical and folk elements, with lyrics that leaned toward the poetic. They put out several more records, including 'Le Grand Bal' in 1996 and 'L'Absinthe' in 2002.
Some listeners found their work cerebral, but they kept at it with a steady lineup. Their music developed a following, though they never seemed interested in chasing a more commercial sound.
