Véronique Pestel

Véronique Pestel came from Vitré, France, and started writing songs as a teenager. Her debut album 'À La Volée' came out in 1993, with the title track becoming her most recognizable song. That album established her in French music with its direct emotional tone.

She kept recording through the 1990s and 2000s, putting out albums like 'Nos Rêves Sont Plus Grands Que Nos Coeurs' in 1995 and 'Les Amants Criminels' in 1998. Other songs like 'Au fil des autres' and 'Double' show her style of personal, sometimes stark writing. She worked with Johnny Hallyday and Robert Charlebois at different points.

Pestel's music often dealt with difficult feelings, which some critics called too dark. She had a reputation for being outspoken, which brought her both attention and pushback.
