Смело входила в загадочный лес.
Знали они, что за лесом спокойным
Спрятан в пещерах подарок небес.
Старец ужасный, им путь преграждая,
Стал говорить гробовые слова:
"Лучше уйдите, коней поверните,
Если нужна на плечах голова".
Только храбрый вожак гордо сказал:
"Пуганных не напугаешь.
Мы тонули в крови, мы пол света прошли -
Наших подвигов не сосчитаешь".
"Боги вам в помощь", - вдруг вымолвил старец
И тихо побрел он тропою лесной.
Рявкнул вожак, острый меч вынимая:
"Богатства уж рядом, идите за мной!
Пугать славных воинов - крысиное дело,
Любого изрубят стальные клинки.
И храбрости нашей давно нет предела,
Уж смерть позабыла про наши полки".
Солнце уж село и славные войны
Костры разжигают, бокалы звенят.
Доброе пиво всех в сон повалило,
Но утром не встанет прекрасный отряд.
Тот, кто поднялся, стонал и шатался,
Многие даже и встать не смогли.
Тис ядовитый в кострах догорает,
А дым смертоносный - хуже петли.
Только храбрый вожак гордо стоял,
Страшную смерть принимая.
Мудрый старец идет, песню поет,
Тисовый посох сжимая.
Добрая сотня прекраснейших воинов
Тихо лежала под тенью ветвей.
Знали они, что за лесом спокойным
Спрятан подарок лесных королей.
В жарких боях пораженья не знали,
Доблестно бился отважный народ,
Но дерево смерти в костры побросали
И в тисовой роще закончен поход.
