Volmir Coelho came up in Cajazeiras, a town in Paraíba in Brazil's northeast. He started playing accordion early, listening to the forró and baião rhythms that were part of the local sound, and to artists like Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro.
In the early 2000s, he formed a band with Pedro Oliveira on zabumba and Rafael Lima on triangle. Their debut album in 2005 was titled after the song 'Lá Pro Quinto Distrito,' which became a hit. Other songs from that period include 'Semanero' and 'Tributo Ao Domador.'
They put out more albums after that, like 'Romance na Fazenda' in 2007 and 'Isso É Forró' in 2010. The music stayed grounded in the traditional trio format of accordion, zabumba, and triangle.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
