Young Knives formed in Ashby-de-la-Zouch in 2002 as a trio of brothers Henry and Thomas Dartnall with Oliver Askew. Their debut album 'Voices of Animals and Men' came out in 2006, followed by 'Superabundance' in 2008 which reached the UK top 30 and earned a Mercury Prize nomination. They've kept releasing albums since, including 'Ornaments from the Silver Arcade' in 2010, 'Sick Octave' in 2013, and more recent ones like 'Barbarians' and 'Mosaic'.
Their songs like 'Another Hollow Line' and 'Coastguard' show their knack for guitar-driven indie rock with a wry lyrical touch. The band's catalog includes tracks such as 'Dialing Darling', 'Half Timer', and 'Loughborough Suicide' that have become staples for their fans.
In 2009, they faced a lawsuit from Jimi Hendrix's estate over alleged similarities between their song 'Supermassive Black Hole' and 'Purple Haze', which was settled out of court. They've continued touring and recording through the years, maintaining the same lineup of the Dartnall brothers and Askew.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
