Yuzo Kayama was born in Yokohama in 1937. He started singing in church choirs and local clubs, and by 1958 he was performing professionally with a vocal group called The Kool Kats. He went solo in 1963.
His song 'Kimito Itsumademo' became a hit, and other tracks like 'Sarai' and 'Koi wa akai bara' followed. He recorded albums including 'Amagigoe' in 1964 and 'Mayonaka no Tango' in 1966. His younger brother Shoji Kayama also became a singer and actor.
Kayama married actress Nobuko Miyamoto in 1967. She died in 1984. He kept performing for years after that, though less frequently, and retired in 2017.
