Zen Baseballbat formed in the early 2000s in the Philadelphia suburbs around frontman Corey DeAngelis. The original lineup included guitarist Thomas Polce, drummer Howie Ingber, and bassist Andrew Bailie. Their debut album 'Get Off the Wagon' had a raw, punk-influenced sound that established their basic approach.
Their song 'Matching Houses' became a point of discussion for its bleak take on suburban life. Later albums like 'Metaphysical Graffiti' and 'Hoodlum's Lullaby' incorporated folk, blues, and electronic elements, showing a gradual expansion of their sound beyond that initial punk energy.
The current lineup features DeAngelis and Polce alongside Ingber and bassist Stephen Popson. They've continued to tour and work on new material, maintaining a presence without the dramatic industry breakthroughs their early history might have suggested.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
