1 Beat Off formed around three musicians: Andy Wilson on vocals and lyrics, Mike Davis on guitar and bass, and Jay Steel on drums. They started playing dive bars and underground clubs, working without much label support. Their debut album 'Introspection' came out in 2005, followed by 'The Art of Rebellion' in 2012.

Their songs like 'Recap,' 'Again,' and 'Bearded lady' mix punk rock with hip-hop and electronic touches. They've worked with other artists including rapper Killer Mike, producer Dan the Automator, and Iggy Pop.

Despite lineup changes over time, the core trio kept making music that drew both strong praise and protests. Their sound never settled into one category, and they didn't soften their approach when faced with opposition from conservative groups.
