Hakim formed in 1997 around vocalist and guitarist Hakim Elyachkoubi in Casablanca. Their debut album in 1999 included 'Sidi Mansour,' which became a defining song in Moroccan pop. The band's lineup featured Othmane Belhouati on keyboards, Salah Eddine Ayoubi on bass, and Adil Ziad on drums.
They released several albums over the next decade, including 'Ya Dounia' in 2002 and 'Maghreb Airlines' in 2005. Their music blended traditional Moroccan rhythms with contemporary sounds, heard in tracks like 'Habibi' and 'Nar.' The 2009 album 'Nafas' marked a return to more traditional elements.
Hakim's work sometimes faced resistance from conservative elements in Moroccan society, but they continued performing. Beyond music, they participated in charity events and supported social causes.
