Jenny Arean was the lead vocalist for the Dutch band Aan Luther En De Anderen, which formed in the mid-1960s. The band's debut single, also called 'Aan Luther En De Anderen,' became a national hit. Their sound featured Arean's distinctive vocals, which had a raw, powerful quality that stood out on songs like 'Amsterdams Parfum' and 'Ballade Van Een 20-Jarig Mmeisje.'
In 1966, Arean was arrested after performing a song called 'Amandina' that some found offensive. Aan Luther En De Anderen released albums like 'De Bloemen van De Nacht' in 1965 and 'De Wonderlijke Wereld van Jenny Arean' in 1967 before disbanding in 1969.
After the band ended, Arean worked as a solo artist and also did some acting and television work. The group reunited briefly for a performance in 2000.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
