José Larralde was born in 1937 in a small town in Buenos Aires province. He started out playing in bars for little money, but his music eventually found an audience.
His 1972 song 'Amigo' became something of an anthem in Argentina, a simple folk tune about friendship that stuck around in the culture. Other songs like 'Grito Changa' and 'Quimey Neuquén' show his connection to the land and people of the pampas. He worked with other folk singers including Mercedes Sosa and Atahualpa Yupanqui.
Larralde's music stayed close to traditional Argentine folk forms, often dealing with ordinary life, loss, and the countryside. In 2010 he received the Konex de Platino award for his work.
