vom Tod und der Götter Untergang.
Da berieten die Asen am Weltenbaume,
wie Baldur nichts mehr Schaden kann.
Allen Wesen nehme ich ab, einen heiligen Eid,
das des Odins Sohn, des Ullers Freund, nie geschieht, nie geschieht ein Leid.
Doch durch Lokis Hinterhalt
schoß der blinde Ase Hödur,
auf Baldur mit dem Mistelzweig,
der schien zu jung für jenen Schwur.
Der Spruch der Wölva ward nun war, verwaist ist Breidablicks Thron.
Wer von euch, fährt zu Hel und bringt uns Heim, bringt uns Heim meinen Sohn?!
Auf Sleipnir ritt der kühne Hermod
nach Nifelheim neun Nächte lang,
trug vor der Hel der Asen Gebot,
das Baldur doch wieder kehret heim.
Boten wurden nun gesandt in die ganze Welt,
das alle Dinge trauern sollen, so wars von Hel gestellt.
Erst dann kehret wieder Heim, nach Asgard zurück,
der durch List ermordet ward, der Götter größtes Unglück.
Aber in einer Höhle saß ein arges Riesenweib
die über Baldurs Tod nicht hat geweint.
