Background notes

Archive material and source history

Tiger Cult came out of the late 1970s underground with a sound that was dark and abrasive enough to draw criticism from conservative corners. Their 1982 single 'Angry Angel' became a cult favorite, its lyrics about hypocrisy and rage finding an audience. The band was led by Lazarus Blake, with guitarist Raven Locke and bassist Nocturne Frost rounding out the core. They worked with experimental artist Lilith Eve at times, adding ethereal vocals to their atmosphere.

Their albums included 'Nocturnal Confessions' in 1983 and 'Tempestuous Embrace' in 1985. Songs like 'Cold And Terrible' and 'Slave To Emptiness' carried on their confrontational style. Their performances sometimes sparked protests, but they kept at it through the mid-1990s before disbanding. A posthumous release, 'Ashes to Ashes', came out in 1999.
