На большом утесе старый дом стоит.
Там ночной порою, волки бродят тучей
И вожак суровый воет и рычит.
Но не знают люди, чей тот дом проклятый
Накрепко закован мглою гробовой,
Что с восходом солнца, тишиной объятый,
Тенью исчезает вместе со скалой.
Люди день встречают, песней провожают,
Хороводы водят посреди холмов.
Целый день гуляют и не замечают
Боевые стяги вражеских полков.
Тучей налетела черная дружина
И от звона стали дрогнула земля.
И повисло горе над большой равниной:
Старец седовласый пал у алтаря.
Но с заходом солнца вдруг туман спустился,
Вой раздался волчий, появился дом.
Уж народ бесстрашный с жизнею простился,
Как над сечей лютой разразился гром.
И несметной тучей окружили волки
Черную дружину роковой стеной.
Острыми клыками разрывали глотки.
Завершив сраженье, пал вожак седой.
За семью горами, за рекой могучей,
На большом утесе старый дом стоит.
Там ночной порою волки бродят тучей
И вожак суровый воет и рычит.
Не забудут люди этой лютой сечи,
Хоть давно курганы поросли травой
И не виден больше тот утес могучий…
В памяти остался только волчий вой.
