Archive material and source history
Ziggens were a surf rock band from Southern California in the 1960s. They had a hit in 1963 with "Ride the Wild Surf," a song that became something of an anthem. The band originally included brothers Bob and Steve Bogle, along with Gary Paxton and Phil Volk.
Their run was fairly brief. Paxton and Volk left the band in 1964, and the group dissolved by 1969. Beyond "Ride the Wild Surf," they recorded songs like "Joseph Of Arimathea" and "Tim the Dinosaur." Their sound had a psychedelic pop edge to it, which set them apart from some of their contemporaries.
