Funkdoobiest

Funkdoobiest formed in Los Angeles in 1993, with Jason "D-Roc" Davis and John "Son Doobie" Thomas making up the duo. They put out their first album, "Which Doobie U B?", in 1995, followed by "The Troubleshooters" the next year. Songs like "Bow Wow Wow" and "Funk's On Me" came from those records.

In 1998, the United States Postal Service sued them over using "Doobie" on merchandise, which got settled out of court. Two years later, some critics said their track "My People" promoted drug use, though the group argued it was just about personal experience.

Their music mixed West Coast rap with funk and some psychedelic rock touches. They kept a lower profile after the early 2000s, but those first couple albums still turn up in hip-hop conversations now and then.
