The Book of Mormon is a Broadway musical that began performances in 2011. It was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who also made South Park, along with composer Robert Lopez. The show takes a satirical look at the beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, drawing partly from Parker's childhood in Colorado.
Songs like 'I Believe' and 'Hasa Diga Eebowai' became signature numbers from the production. The show has since been staged in London's West End and toured internationally.
The LDS Church issued a statement calling it crude and irreverent. Despite this, or perhaps partly because of it, the show developed a reputation for sharp satire wrapped in genuinely catchy musical theater writing.
